What We Do
What We Do
As high school students we get to work along side many adult mentors with a broad range of skills. These include; programming, building, fund development, travel arrangements, and communication. During the build season of the competition, January 4th-February 18th , we put everything we have learned into designing the new robot. Our mentors, teachers, and coaches are part of our strategy meetings, robot design and build. Together, we learn to use sophisticated hardware and software i.e. 3-D Printer, CAD.
It is equally important that we give back to our community. We are involved in mentoring youth in one Calgary community school , Scout’s Canada program and several other new high school FRC teams. Some of our students mentor FIRST Lego League (FLL) at Westgate Elementary once a week, and Scout Hall 18, every weekend. The purpose of this initiative is to excite younger children in the world of Science and Technology, and teach valuable employment and life skills.
Our team is continually working to build a better Calgary. For example, in December this past year, our team helped out at the Calgary Food Bank warehouse.
At the Calgary Western First Robotics Competition, our team hosts 35 teams from around the world at the school. This event includes food, entertainment and often dignitaries. It is our way of celebrating the spirit of FRC and Calgary.
